Did Perris and Menifee adopt the new fire hazard maps?

Yes, both did, in June 2025. On March 24, 2025, the State Fire Marshal issued recommended maps for local areas of Riverside County, Menifee's fire maps page says.

Perris's City Council adopted the zones "as recommended" by the state on June 10, 2025, by a 5-0 vote. The ordinance says it takes effect 30 days after adoption.

Menifee's City Council adopted the part of the state's map that covers the city on June 18, 2025, the city's Fall 2025 newsletter says.

Perris's fire marshal says homes in a Very High zone "must follow stricter home hardening and defensible space standards," with "100-foot defensible space clearance." New construction and major renovations in High and Very High zones must meet the state's wildland building codes, and sellers must disclose the zone.

Look up your own address to see whether your home is in a zone, and which one.

The County of Riverside made the 2026 edition of the state's Fire Risk Reduction Community List, a roll of agencies with sound fire planning. The cities of Perris and Menifee did not.

What does Perris require before you rent out a home?

Yes, for stays of 27 days or less. Perris requires a short-term rental business license from the city before a home is rented short term. The rule is Chapter 5.38 of its Municipal Code (Ordinance 1374, November 13, 2018).

The city defines a short-term rental as a stay of "at least one night, but no more than 27 consecutive calendar days."

Chapter 5.38 itself sets no insurance requirement. Your own policy may still treat paying guests differently, so read how a homeowners policy handles short stays and get your insurer's answer in writing.

In Menifee, ask the city's planning department about rentals before you list a home.

A checklist for Perris and Menifee owners

The Airport Fire of September 2024 burned 23,526 acres in Orange and Riverside counties. Bulletin 2024-9 then paused wildfire non-renewals in Perris's 92570 for one year from September 11, 2024. That pause has ended.

In California, a non-renewal notice must go out by mail or delivery at least 75 days (90 days beginning January 1, 2028) before the policy ends. Start your search when the notice comes, with standard insurers first, then specialty insurers.

If your home moved to the FAIR Plan in the last few years, check it against full policies before each renewal. A FAIR Plan policy on a Perris or Menifee home leaves out a burst pipe's water damage, a burglary and a guest's injury. One full policy in its place can cover all three.

If a full policy comes through, start it first, then cancel the FAIR Plan policy.
